Zaanstad 12

is a performance that revolves around an amateur archaeological excavation of a site in Zaanstad (NL). After a productive, but increasingly waterlogged excavation into the Dutch soil, reaching as far back as the 16th century, the team realise that a mysterious object as been present unchanged in every layer of earth they dig away. They name the object Z12, and quickly deduce that while they could track the object downwards - back in time - they can also track it upwards: into a future where everything is made of gold.
The performance aided by an overhead projector, transparancies, and 3D glasses, with which the archaeologists educate bypassers about theie remarkable findings. With their moustaches turned gold from the experience, the pair take their time to explain all in detail.

Zaanstad 12

is a collaborative project with Sjoerd van Leeuwen.
